Traveling to Mexico with Two Australian Shepherds – Vet Visits
About a month ago, I wrote an article about heartworm prevention in dogs. This was not out of the blue – it was because we were planning for a trip to Mexico and the new dog regulations require a veterinary sign-off on the treatment/prevention of both ecto and endo parasites. We recently returned and I am working on writing up our adventures. In the meantime, below is a description of how we prepared for our trip.
Heartworm Prevention in Australian Shepherds – My Experience
When we rescued Trooper from the kennel I worked at, we decided to follow our vet’s recommendation for endo and ecto parasite prevention – Advantix for fleas and ticks and Heartgard for heartworms and other internal parasites.
We have Two High Energy Dogs in a Tiny House
The dogs and I have been absent for a few months because I have been writing a book about our recent (3 years ago) lifestyle change. Brian and I sold our big house in Connecticut, toured around the Southwest and finally built a ‘tiny house’. We have one full-sized piano, one parrot and two dogs in a tiny house.
Purgatory Chasm, Gila National Forest
After consuming a large Cinnabon cinnamon roll each, we felt an intense hike would be in our best interest. We loaded up the dog team and headed east.
The Shaved Australian Shepherd & Why it’s okay
I’ve written a lot about grooming lately. In my own angst about the shaved Australian Shepherd and undercoat chaos management, I have been doing a lot of reading and I just had to write about it again. In this post, we discuss our decision to shave the dogs.
Australian Shepherd Shedding & Using an Undercoat Rake
Our two dogs are excellent representatives of the Australian Shepherd Shedding Campaign – meaning, they shed A LOT. Using an undercoat rake on a regular basis has helped tremendously with managing their hair contributions to the house and our clothing.
Update on our Raw Meaty Bones Routine
It has been a few years since I wrote about our adventures on any sort of regular basis. So, while feeding the dog team the other day, I realized our Raw Meaty Bones (RMB) practices were due to be updated.
